A caregiver-led sensory sequence for late afternoon. Words are optional; the touch and the rhythm carry it.
Read the left column, do the middle, watch the right
Speak slowly and lower your voice a little. Your calm is the first thing they will pick up.
| Moment | What to say | What to do and watch for |

| Arrive | "It's me. I'm going to sit with you a while." | Wait until they look toward you before doing anything else. |
| Warm the lotion | "This is going to be warm." | Rub it between your own palms first so nothing lands cold. |
| Offer your hand | Say nothing. Just rest your open palm near theirs. | Let them reach. If they do not, rest your hand lightly on theirs. |
| Smooth the back of the hand | "There." | Long, slow strokes toward the wrist. Keep the pressure even. |
| Each finger | Hum something old and slow if it feels right. | One finger at a time, unhurried. Watch the face, not the hand. |
| Rest | "We're alright." | Hold still with your hand on theirs. Stay longer than you think you should. |
What to have ready
- Unscented lotion, or one scent you know they like
- A warm towel
- The room lamp on instead of the overhead light
- Nothing else running — no television, no radio
