A warm basket, a chair, and a job that hands remember long after names go. Nothing here has to be folded correctly.
The job
Sit beside them, not across. Give the basket, then step back.
- Set the basket of warm towels on their lap or on the table in front of them.
- Fold one yourself, slowly, without saying anything about it. Then leave the rest alone.
- Stay nearby. If they hand you a folded towel, take it like it matters — because it does.
An empty basket is not the goal. Unfolding and folding the same towel for twenty quiet minutes is the whole activity, done well.
If it stops going well
Take the basket away without comment and put on something familiar to listen to. Nothing was lost. You can offer it again tomorrow.
