The job
Tip the tin out onto a tray with a rim so nothing rolls away.
- Put the tray down and say one thing only: "Would you sort these out for me?"
- Wait. Processing takes longer than it looks — count slowly to ten before adding anything.
- Let their sorting logic stand, even if it is by shine, or weight, or nothing you can see.
There is no right pile. If the tin gets filled and tipped out again, that is a good afternoon.
What to have ready
- A shallow tray or baking sheet with a rim
- Large hex nuts, wing nuts, washers — nothing small
- An old coffee tin or cigar box to sort into
- A cloth to lay under it all so the sound stays soft
